Trend Alert: Neon Summer

So, since it well and truly peaked in the 80’s, we’re not really sure neon has ever really gone out of fashion, but one thing’s for sure…this coming summer, neon is better than ever.

On the fashion front, neon is really a signal that the weather is warming up. Rather than go all out 80’s, however, these days we tend to wear pops of neon, whether it’s a casual hot pink tee, a range of neons in a floral print, or as a pop of neon in a piece of jewellery or a scarf.

In the home, neon works best in small bursts. In large volumes, neon can be somewhat overwhelming! For a bit of edge in your home, think about adding a neon display tray, a neon sign or a neon lamp.

Pops of neon in artworks also work well. If you are not sure about whether neon will work in your home, try testing the waters with a neon cushion or two. This is an inexpensive way of feeling out whether or not your home can work a neon edge.

We saw loads of neon home décor pieces at the recent Reed Gift Fairs, which took place in Melbourne in August. Here are just a few of our favourite neon finds from the show:

Executive Concepts had these neon trays that went straight to the top of my wishlist. Their neon photo frames and stools were also standouts.

Independence Studios had some gorgeous neon lamps for the kiddiewinks. So sweet!

Pumpt (Outliving) had a colourful range of pool accessories, with hints of neon throughout.

Sunnylife were the life of the party, and their range of neon lights proved very popular.
