Although it might not feel it like it whilst we are still waking to icy winds and pumping up the heaters, we promise, Spring is just around the corner!
To Melburnians, however, Spring does not just mean the end of the “winter that is always somehow colder than expected.” Rather, it means that many a Melburnian’s favourite event is just around the corner: the Spring Racing Carnival!
The time to start preparing for the Racing Carnival is now, with many milliners already working diligently to create beautiful headwear to go with the fabulous fashions on the field. 2016 will see a continued variety of headwear options including pillbox hats, broad hats, feathered fascinators, as well as jewelled headbands and head pieces. Colourful feathers will play a dominant role and stunning floral crowns and headbands are also expected to trend.
When it comes to choosing headwear, two key things need to be taken into consideration: your face shape and your outfit. Headwear needs to suit your face – for example, a small face may be overwhelmed by a big or fussy hat; a fascinator or headband may be a more flattering choice. Round faces require height, so a hat or fascinator that is high would work well. Headwear also needs to work in tandem with one’s outfit, especially in regards to colour, fabric and texture.
