Knowing what’s hot (and what’s not) is the key to staying competitive. To become an in-demand store, retailers have to offer convenience, customisation and curate current trends. For today’s shoppers, loyalty is no longer a deciding factor for which store gets their dollars. How customers search, interact and buy is drastically different today, than it was just 5 years ago. To maintain and grow your competitive position, you need to stay ahead of retail trends. Here’s our short list of Retail Trends to watch out for in 2019.
Trend #1- Pantone colours for Spring/Summer 2019
The first of our Retail Trends to watch out for in 2019 are Pantone Colours. The colours chosen by Pantone Colour Institute tend to set the scene for just about every retail trend. From homewares to fashion, this year’s colours are bright, bold and fruity. Harking from a palette called “Cravings” with names like Fiesta Red, Toffee, Mango Mojito and Aspen Gold, these colours are “meant to tempt the eye as well as the taste buds with spicy reds, sweet flamingo orange and rich purples.”
Trend #2 – Terrazzo
Move over marble, your glitzier, grittier cousin is headed for homes around the world. Making a sneek peek at the end of 2018 abroad, the updated version of terrazzo is more sophisticated than the 60’s bathroom cubicles that we’ve all encountered. Teamed with strips of gold, brass and other metals, terrazzo is going to be HOT in 2019
Trend #3 – Personalisation
When does a boring consumable become a must-have accessory? The minute you personalise it! Dubbed “brand you”, big brands have taken personalisation to the mass market (Nutella, Coke and Vegemite, just to name a few) and it’s time for independent retailers to jump on board or miss out on the millions that are spent each year on personalisation. Think monograms, customer lettering and leather stamping to take office and homeware staples to the next level.
Trend #4 – Customisation
Taking personalisation off the shelves and into your marketing, customers increasingly expect their entire shopping journey is tailored specifically for them. Amazon.com states that 35% of their revenue comes from it’s customised product recommendations engine. If you want a customer to hang around and spend more, you must become more savvy how you market to your customers and create individual experiences.
With the retail market constantly evolving both on and offline, retailers can no longer expect that customers will return after they purchase. Staying on trend equals staying relevant. And relevance is what customers are constantly in search of.
